Out Together Making a Difference

Sounds gay. I’m In.

At Out Together, we’re working to bring joy, laughter, and togetherness into the lives of more older LGBT+ people across West Yorkshire.

We’re reaching out, making new friends, and sharing stories with those who may struggle to connect in a world that sometimes seems to leave people behind.

Breaking across generational divides, we focus on what unites the LGBT+ community – a need for acceptance, for friendship, and for fun.

We are developing a telefriending service to offer telephone support for people who would otherwise have no contacts to spend time with and talk to.

We’re ambitious. You may have research or administration skills that could help us grow. Let us know how you think you could help!

We’re looking for support from LGBT+ people, from Hebden Bridge to Horsforth, from Wetherby to Wakefield.

If you want to make a difference to the lives of people in our community who have “been there, done that” and have more than a few hair-raising stories to share, we’d like to hear from you.

If you’ve got a phone, access to the internet, a few hours to spare and a lot of kindness to share, get in touch.

Is this YOU?

  • You’re LGBT+ and you want more community and belonging? You want to be part of something outside your closer circle?
  • You want more friendship, connection, someone to laugh and share your stories with?
  • You want to do something for the LGBT+ community, to feel needed and that you’re having an impact?

Sound familiar? One, two or all of these might say something about you. If so, volunteering with Out Together is for you.

What do we need from you?

  • Kindness!
  • Willingness to learn and to stay within our simple guidelines.
  • A three-month commitment – no one wants a new friend who scarpers after a few weeks!
  • Time to do the training
  • A couple of references and a DBS check – we’ll organise these.
  • Access to/use of some basic technology to do the training on Zoom and a phone to keep in contact.

Be a volunteer with out together and have some fun!
Reach out the hand of friendship to those that seek it, don’t sit back as older people in our community suffer in silence.
