Digital Inclusion
Digital inclusion is one of All Out Together’s core projects and a key part of our work across Yorkshire.
As more services move online, many people feel left behind, frustrated or excluded. This can affect access to healthcare, benefits, housing, social connection and everyday tasks. Our digital inclusion project helps LGBT+ people build confidence using technology in a relaxed, supportive and judgement-free way.
What the digital inclusion project is about
The focus of this project is confidence, not competence. We support people to feel more comfortable using everyday technology at their own pace, without pressure or assumptions.
Support includes:
- Using smartphones, tablets and computers
- Sending emails and managing accounts
- Accessing NHS, council and government services online
- Staying safe online and avoiding scams
- Keeping in touch with friends, family and community
- Online shopping
- Social Media
- Digital safety
Sessions are practical, friendly and tailored to individual needs. There is no such thing as a silly question.
How and where it runs
Digital inclusion support runs regularly at our hubs and through outreach sessions in community venues. Support may be one-to-one or in small groups, depending on what feels most helpful.
Some people attend once for a specific issue, while others come along more regularly as their confidence grows.
Who the project is for
This project is for LGBT+ adults who feel unsure, anxious or frustrated using technology, or who want a bit of help getting started.
You do not need any prior knowledge, and you do not need to own your own device to take part.
Why it matters
Improving digital confidence can make a huge difference to everyday life. Participants often report feeling more independent, less stressed and better able to access services and stay connected with others.
With basic digital skills, our members are better equipped to access healthcare, manage finances, and communicate with family and friends, reducing isolation and opening up new opportunities.
Digital inclusion is particularly crucial for marginalised groups, including older adults and rural communities, who may otherwise be left behind as technology advances. By providing the knowledge and confidence to navigate digital tools, digital inclusion training helps bridge the digital divide, ensuring everyone can benefit from our increasingly connected world.
