Together under the Rainbow Flag

February 17 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

Free

The Rainbow Flag, created in 1978 by activist and designer Gilbert Baker, stands as a global symbol of hope and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community, especially in the face of rising hostility and challenges to equality worldwide.

This free event will look into the historical significance and ongoing impact of the Rainbow Flag. It will include a panel discussion, followed by questions from the audience and networking opportunities.

Alongside local community representatives, who will be sharing personal perspectives on the flag’s relevance in their lives, the panel includes:

  • Aaron Casserly Stewart – Board member of the Gilbert Baker Foundation, offering insights into the flag’s creation and evolution.
  • Matt Jameson – Speaker, presenter and influencer, as event host and chair of the panel.
  • Tim Gittins – Chair of Out Together, discussing the flag’s role in uniting diverse identities.

This event aims to:

  • Explore the historical and cultural significance of the Rainbow Flag, including its role in LGBTQ+ activism and unity.
  • Foster greater awareness of its creator, Gilbert Baker, and the enduring message of hope and inclusion the flag represents.
  • Provide an opportunity for intergenerational dialogue, connecting younger LGBTQ+ professionals and older community members.
  • Inspire attendees to view the Rainbow Flag as a continued source of empowerment and a call to action in the face of modern challenges.
