Daniel’s Out Together story

30/01/2022

To celebrate National Storytelling Week we are sharing stories from our incredible friends, giving an insight into people’s different experiences of being #OutTogether and exploring the highs and lows of coming out, across different ages and generations.

Daniel’s story

Our ambassador Daniel Mckee is 28 and explains that his experience of coming out was a gradual thing; he’d finished school, had grown in confidence and felt he wanted and needed to let people know who he really, truly was. Daniel explains: “I had nothing but a positive experience and people were very kind and very welcoming.”

Reflecting on telling his parents, Daniel said: “My parents were the last people I told, which was a shame because they are so loving and welcoming but I suppose you build it up so much within your own mind. When I told them, they were very relaxed to the point they were like, what are we having for tea then?”

Daniel feels grateful that he’s able to live his authentic self and can share exactly who he is with everyone. Daniel added: “It’s inspiring and a privilege, thanks to what other people have gone through, through the generations.”
