Befriending

We are excited to launch our new befriending line in partnership with Sky and their Time to Care team. This is a bespoke service supporting the LGBTQ+ community here in Yorkshire.

Life can be lonely sometimes – everybody has experienced feeling alone at some point in their lives. But feelings of isolation can be particularly challenging as we get older, when we might not feel like getting out and about like we used to. Having someone to talk to can make all the difference.

Why Befriending?

Our befriending line aims to help you stay connected, increase your confidence, and provide a supportive friendly chat each week. It is also a great way to spend time speaking with someone else who identifies as LGBTQ+ and can therefore offer a warm, understanding ear. Your volunteer will also let you know all about what we have going on at Out Together. They are looking forward to speaking with you and sharing a laugh or two!

What won’t a Befriender do?

While having a befriender can be wonderful and help improve your life both emotionally and physically, it is important to note that the befriending service is not a crisis service, counselling or advice service and that all befrienders are volunteers from the Sky Time to Care team.

How do I get a Befriender for myself?

If you want to have a befriender, click the button below to fill in the referral form. Sky are currently developing a bespoke referral form for us that will automatically connect you to an LGBTQ+ volunteer. In the meantime, at the bottom of the form, please click “Yes” to the question “Is there anything else you would like us to consider as part of your sign up request”, then enter LGBT in the text box. The Sky Time to Care team will then contact you to discuss the next steps.
